Why You'll Burn Out Without Intimacy with the Lord

by - 23:00:00

How to develop intimacy with the Lord

When you try to serve God without having a personal revelation of Him or experiencing intimacy with Him, you serve Him with your own strength. While this might work for some time, it will fail in the end. Your relationship with Him will begin to go stale and produce no lasting results for you. Others may be blessed by your ministry but you yourself will not be. There will always be something lacking and the joy for ministering to the Father will be lost. You'll quickly be burned out as your passion for Him and souls dissolve in the sea of trails and the cares of this world.

You may give up and dry up, only a renewed relationship with the Father on a higher level can bring you back on track. Serving the Lord is not about your efforts or the things you do. The primal thing is to experience and have consistent intimacy with Him first. You cannot give what you do not have to others. You’re able to give only as much as you yourself have received. Developing intimacy with God and continuous intimacy with Him is the answer to a fulfilling walk with God. How can you walk with someone you do not know? How can you teach about someone you barely know?

How to Develop Intimacy with the Lord

Prayer, meditation and reading the word are ways of knowing God and drawing closer to Him. Prayer is having an intercourse with God. It is deeper than communication, it is a give and take affair that can only be compared to the intimacy experienced in sex. When you speak God expects you to stop and listen to Him that is why He has given you the Holy Spirit who will take directly from Him and give unto you. He is your comforter, counselor, friend and teacher.

Now meditation is about pondering over scripture and saying it until you have a personal revelation of it in your spirit. When the logos becomes rhema in you nothing can take it away from you. Finally, you have to spend time reading the word of God, the Bible. You cannot know God without His word. As an individual, you cannot be separated from your words and same applies to God. When you spend time in the word you not only get to know God better and grow in faith but you also find out who you really are and why you were created.

Don't let your focus be on doing or serving like Martha but rather like Mary, let your focus be on spending time at the feet of the Master. Listen, read and meditate on His word. When you abide in Him, you'll be fruitful and flourish with ease. More than anything, God longs to grow in intimacy with us. Don't shipwreck your faith by losing sight of what's important, that is your personal relationship with Him. You cannot thrive on other people's knowledge and revelation of the Lord. You have to have your own revelation and experience of Him. Devote time every day to commune with Him through prayer, meditation and the word.

My prayer for both you and I is that we grow in fellowship with the Holy Spirit and that we become very intimate with Him. The only way to survive and live in triumph always is through faith and prayer. Our fellowship with the Spirit of God ensures this.
