Recently I pondered over our ministry’s theme of the year, “Our Year of Triumph.” I looked over my life to see if I was being fruitful and experiencing triumph. I realised that I was really triumphing. I already have loads of testimonies about the Lord’s goodness in my life.

Ps 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. (KJV)

It was exciting reading through my book of Thanksgiving to recap all that the Lord has done and will continue to do in my life. We serve such an amazing God! In my joy I began to analyse whether the themes of the previous years had reflected in my life. I realised sadly that that was not always the case. There were times that the Lord’s word for a specific year worked in my life and so many other times when it didn’t simply work.

I was inspired to write this post by a conversation I had with a friend. We talked about what message believers should preach to the world. What is our gospel? Is our gospel a message of condemnation or love?

Do we tell people the consequences of living without God or teach them what they gain by receiving the love of Christ? Almost everyday I hear preachers shout out the sins of people and how they’ll go to hell. They speak of the curses they bring on themselves by not living rightly. They call out their sins by name and condemn them. However one thing I have come to realise is that the preaching of sin and hell make some seemingly repent out of fear. These who receive the Lord out of the fear of burning in hell later end up back in the world.

Be positive and optimistic. Don't carry your past into your presence and future. Avoid the blame game and take responsibility for today and move on.

We all have varied experiences in life. People’s perception of our lives and experiences are not usually the same for us. On the outside all they see of us is the confidence, excellence, our achievements and how blessed we are. They only see the smiles and joy that we put out there. They speak about how blessed we are and how they wish they are in our position. Some even long to have what we have.

What they do not see is our struggles. They don’t see that just like them we’ve got stuffs to deal with and overcome. They don’t realise that though we’re happy and joyful, this is as a result of the choice we made to stay happy and joyful no matter what. We’ve all got our struggles, and our weaknesses that we hide from the world. No one is perfect and sometimes we go through the most heart breaking situations but we always opt to trust in God. We believe and hope as Abraham hoped against hope.

I decided to spend this week at home just to rest. The plan was not to do anything serious except blog and pray. Though I still had to do some runs it was a pretty slow week.

As I enjoyed my free time this turned into something else. I would wake up feeling bored and all anxious. I looked over my life and started to regret my actions and inaction. It seemed all the sunshine had been nipped out of my life. I became critical and got sucked in deeper into boredom. I was just helpless. I wondered how all joy seemed to have vanished into thin air. I asked myself why I was feeling so hopeless.

It was as though what I had needed to be discouraged was just to take time off. I was drowning in a myriad of emotions and these weren't good emotions. My flaws and short comings were glaringly staring at me in the face. It was as though my life was all a big joke.

A time will come and it always does for some it comes more than once. But trust me that time will. The time will come when you're so dissatisfied with where you are and what you do. A time will come, maybe you're in that season now, when you're in a place that you always wanted to be. However you can't part yourself on the back and celebrate because you realise that that is not where you want to be.

Before you got to where you're right now you had anticipated and dreamt so much about it that you prayed everyday that God would bring you there. So here you're, voila, you're living your dreams. But after all the excitement wears off you realise it's not where you want to be after all.

There are days that just like everyone else I feel unappreciated and unloved. I feel alone and lonely. Loneliness seeks to drown me in the icy silence of my voice. Loneliness seeks to imprison me in the shackles of self loath. I try to cheer myself up and divert my attention by watching movie after movie and reading my favorite novels but I have to admit that I was just deluding myself.

When loneliness attacks it’s a prelude to depression. Loneliness brings with it dissatisfaction and judgment of oneself, of course the self always comes out as lacking and a failure. Loneliness draws me into myself and prevents me from reaching out to others. Loneliness makes me so aware of my failures and dissatisfaction with my life. Loneliness makes me doubt the call of God upon my life. Loneliness makes me lose my joy and my drive to live and to conquer. Loneliness makes my life seem all but a charade that must be stopped. Loneliness makes everything seem so inconsequential.

Whenever God births a dream in you there are various stages that you’ll go through. My list may not be exhaustive these are my personal experience and that of people I lookup to. When a dream is birth in you the very first stage you pass through is excitement and amazement. You see all the possibilities and great things that your idea can accomplish.

You see the awards you’ll win and the money that you may earn. You’re on cloud nine at this point. You only see the positive side of your idea and can’t see any reason why you can’t accomplish your dreams. You don’t see what it will cost you in order to realise your dreams.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines flaw

1a: a defect in physical structure or form <a diamond with a flaw>

1b: an imperfection or weakness and especially one that detracts from the whole or hinders effectiveness.

From this definition it is clear that a flaw is not something to be proud of. However without doubt we all have our flaws. Some are visible others are not, nonetheless we all have flaws because no one is perfect. There are days and sometimes weeks that we go through a phase where all we can see so glaringly is our flaws. We question God and ask Him why He had created us with such a flaw and why no matter how much we pray or cry it wouldn’t just go away.
