Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the word teaching about righteousness. NIV, Hebrews 5:13
It is imperative that as a believer you grow in understanding righteousness. Your understanding of righteousness will determine your growth in the Lord. How much you experience and receive from the Lord is dependent on this. What then is righteousness? Is your righteousness dependent on your works or what you do? Are you righteous because you have good morals? Are you righteous because you wear the right clothes? Are you righteous because you are good to people?
What is righteousness?
Righteousness by definition is justification with God. This means that you have been made right with God. You are clean, pure and holy! That’s awesome, right? Now, let’s turn to the Bible to answer the question of how you can become righteous.
…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. NKJV; Romans 10:9-10
This scripture points out how you get saved and become righteous. When you believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus in your heart and confess it with your heart, you become saved. Therefore you become righteous when you believe; “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness….” The righteousness of Jesus is imputed to you when you believe in Him. Hence, your righteousness is not dependent on what you do but rather it depends on what you believe.
