Do Christians and Muslims Worship One God?
In the light of Wheaton
College’s, an evangelical college in Illinois, associate professor of political
science Larycia Hawkins wearing the hijab and professing on social media that
Muslims and Christians worship the same God, there's been a divide in the
church. One school of thought holds this statement true while the other doesn't.
Growing up I was taught about
Christianity, Islam and indigenous African Traditional Religion. I was taught
that we all believed in the same God but approached him through different ways.
Thus the conclusion is that God was same but ways of worshiping him differed. I
believed this as a child and this is being taught not only in some parts of
Africa but through out the world.
While I now believe that there is
indeed only one God I do not believe that all religions worship this God! There
is only one God as a result Muslims and Christians do not worship this same God.
The idea of both religions worshiping one God in itself is an Islamic ideology
not a Christian one. According to Islam Christians are the people of the book
who also worship Allah but it is not stated in any part of the Bible that
Muslims worship the Christian God!
Christians believe in the fatherhood
of God but Muslims believe that Allah can't be compared to his creations or
have a personal relationship with him. Christians do have a personal relationship with God.
Christians believe in Christ Jesus as the express image of God, He is the Word
of God. God incarnate in human form but Muslims don't. Muslims on the other hand
believe that Jesus or Issah is only but a prophet. Christians believe in a
triune God that is God, the father, the son and the Holy Spirit but Muslims
don't. The Christian God loves Jews but the Muslim Allah apparently doesn’t
like Jews.
Christians and Muslims do not worship
the same God. In spreading the ideology that Christians and Muslims worship the
same God you're spreading an Islamic ideology not a Christian one.
